Strengthen Exercises For Your Wrist And Forearms To Prevent Injury!

Forearm and Wrist Strengthening Exercises ~ Prevent Injury!

As you have probably seen others with experience your always start your muscles slowly with a little warm up to prevent injury. Don’t overwork them right out the gate. Your injury will delay your progress tremendously and not worth delaying your road to more fit, healthy and strong body. You can get your muscle growth started at a safe and injury free pace by starting with only one forearm and one wrist strengthening exercise per workout routine day. It is usually reasonable to begin with two sets of any of the 5 exercises listed below with 10 reps per set. Gradually increase after the first week of successful growth.

Forearm and Wrist Strengthening Exercises

THE HAND GRIPPER

No surprise here that this exercise develops grip strength. Need to crush something or twist open a jar? This is what you’ve been looking for. Don’t let the simplicity of this exercise fool you; it’s going to be hard to accomplish more than a few reps if you’re a beginner.

To carry out this exercise:
When you begin you will need to hold tight to the hand gripper with one hand. Release your grip as the hand gripper’s handle touch when you squeeze them together.

Cable Machine Wrist Strengthening Exercises (Wrist Curls)

Connect a cable stir-up attachment to a low pulley cable, work one wrist at a time, if you want to work both forearms, you can attach a straight bar. This is a great forearm exercise equipment routine to gain muscle with a controlled environment. Work by kneeling over a bench, having your forearms resting on the bench, to help isolate the wrist muscles, grasp the cable attachment with your palms facing down.

Keep your forearms in contact with the bench while you smoothly and slowly raise and lower the weight.

Your wrist should be close to the edge of the bench while your forearms also keep contact with the bench.

these forearm and wrist straightening exercises can be performed in a standing position ~ keep your hands pulled in close to your body at waist level.

REVERSE WRIST CURLS

These work the bottom side of the forearm and wrist muscles. This is similar to doing wrist curls.

To carry out this exercise:
o In a sitting position, rest forearms on the tops of your thighs. (For greater stability, kneel in front of a bench and rest your forearms on it.)

Keep your wrist resting on the bench or your knees. Dumbbells are held with palms facing upward.

o Lift up the weight, moving only your wrists.
o Lower weights to the starting position.

Wrist Strengthening Exercises ~ WRIST CURLS

These work the top side of the forearm and the wrist muscles. You should always try to prevent injury by using light to moderate weights and refrain from overstretching.

To perform this exercise:

o In a sitting position, rest forearms on the tops of your thighs. (For greater stability, kneel in front of a bench and rest your forearms on it.)

o Wrists should rest on the knees (or a flat bench). Dumbbells are held with palms facing downward.

o Lift up the weight, moving only your wrists.
o Lower your weights to the starting position.

HANGING WEIGHT ROLL-UP

You will really feel ‘the burn’ with this exercise. As a beginner, one set may be all you’re able to do.

To carry out this exercise:

o Tie one end of a rope (at least five feet long) around a light-to-moderate weight dumbbell or plate.
o Tie the other end to the mid part of a sturdy stick (about two feet lengthwise) or your stripped-down dumbbell. Even a steel pipe can be used.
o Holding the stick or pipe in both hands, use a back-and-forth wrist twisting motion to wind up the hanging rope.
o Unwind the rope and repeat (if you’re able).

REVERSE GRIP DUMBBELL/BARBELL CURLS

Used for building biceps and for building forearm muscularity.

To carry out this exercise:

o Standing, grasp your dumbbells or barbell in an overhand position.
Keep your elbows tight to your sides while your arms are hanging down in front of your body.

o Lift up the weight, keeping your upper arms stationary.
o Lower your weights to the starting position.

Learn How To Live Longer, and Healthier

Learn How To Live Longer, and Healthier

Living longer takes more work than most people think. It is not only what you take into your body, but also how you treat your body as well. Research is showing that nutrition, and supplements play a key role in longevity. Resveratrol supplements have been show to help balance our systems, boost our immune system, protect cardiac function, decrease the risks of strokes and so much more. You can get more information by clicking here

Seven Foundations of Life and Health

The Secrets of Longevity have been a quest by many people for aeons of time. There are pockets of the world’s population where people live much longer than the longevity nations (China, Japan, Korea) such as the Hunzas in the Himalayas, the Vilcambas in the Andes, the Abkhasians and Georgians on the Black Sea, the East Indian Todas and the Yucatan Indians. Researchers tracking cultures living the longest have found that its not unusual for these peoples to live a life of quality. Work and play beyond 80 years and beyond is typical. A majority, attain 100 years remaining active and honored by all they live with. Here are the longevity habits of these people.

THE 7 PILLARS TO A LONGER, HEALTHIER LIFE

  1. SLEEP

Sleep more, age less…Sleep is not an optional activity. Sleep is just as important as food and water, without it your immune system will break down.

Any book dedicated to the topic of aging will cite the necessity for enough sleep, which is 7-9 hours.

There is a strong relationship between deep sleep and the release of Growth Hormone. During restful sleep, adults receive the greatest amount of HGH secretion.

Sleep disturbances usually stem from 1) deficient adrenals and kidneys (need energy to sleep), 2) high blood pressure spike at 3AM, 3) damp-obstruction in the throat (blocks airways) snoring, semi-wakefulness , 4) excess heat rising from the liver which causes alert status, head heat and headache and 5) excess urination which wakes the person thus not allowing deep REM sleep

2. STRESS REDUCTION

You cannot deny the health benefits of stress reduction.

Alleviation of stress eliminates and slows aging and resists disease.

Dr. Paul E. Lemanski (Albany Medical College( writes, ‘Stress causes the release of ‘fight or flight’ hormones which increase blood flow to our large muscles, increase our heart rate, respirations and blood pressure, and decreases blood flow to the gastrointestinal tract including the saliva glands.

Sleep disturbances usually stem from 1) high blood pressure spiking at 3AM,  2) Deficient adrenals and kidneys (need energy to sleep), 3)

3. EXERCISE

In ’Successful Aging’ (1998) a study on aging in America, which had begin in 1987, showed that almost all healthy seniors had been physically active throughout their life.

Dr. Andrew Weil, a well-known proponent of alternative or complementary medicine and the author of, ‘Healthy Aging’, supports the idea that up until modern times, humans have almost always been physically active, simply by surviving off the land. Today we work off computers. If you don’t spend some time daily exercising, your body breaks down due to the excess and obstructed body acid.Walking helps if conducted at a moderate quick pace.

4. NUTRITION

We all know the importance of good nutrition and a balanced diet. But which diet? The best history of longevity is held by the Hunzakuts of the Pakastani Himalayas. The majority of the people live over 100. They practice these health pillars, exceptionally, and more. They eat 3/5 the calories as those in industrialized society, drink 40 cups of water with chunks of Himalyan mineral salt daily, work 12 hours a day then play, take long 20 mile treks or hike up the mountin side, meditate many times in the day, etc.  Their diet consists of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and a little goat or Yak meat every couple of weeks, drink home made "Pani" wine (weak) and goat milk. Their great secret is that they don’t waste their waste. They put all animal and human elimination and garbage back into the soil as compared to industrial society where all all elimination goes down the drain to public works depts. and dumped in sanitation pits. Our soil is nutritionally weak while their soil, without the support of nutrients and pesticide, can fend off all microbes and insects.

5. WATER

Like that of nutrition, lots can be said and studies can be cited all day long as to which type of water is best for us. One thing is for sure however. Drinking enough water on a daily basis is essential for proper elimination and detoxification. I have found that water in plastic containers is very acidic which results in an inflammatory state. City water is in healthy acid/alkaline ranges but still has too much chlorine. I suggest putting a filter on the tap and shower head. Low acid content and chlorine.

6. SUPPLEMENTATION

Today it is becoming very hard to argue against proper supplementation in order to maintain health due to our poor soil nutrition. However, if one were to source natural crop supplementation, they would be better off. This is hard to come by because it takes extra knowledge to provide for yourself and you need to take the time to grow your crop. But, if you are are desiring longevity then I would begin the search for an urban community garden or acquire land to produce yourself.

Many well-respected scientists, researchers, and medical professionals have discovered the relationship between mineral deficiencies and a wide variety of health conditions, which afflict the human body.

Over the last century, our soil has become nutritionally deficient, making it necessary to supplement founded on easily absorbable plant nutrients. Longevity herbal is a beneficial natural source of highly mineralized, vitaminized food. Besides the health engendering alkalods contained there are dense nutrients which provides the human body the potential for correction. The key is the knowledge of the practitioner and chooser of the herbs essential for balance to be achieved.

7. POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE

In the work called "The Secret" and many studies before, a positive belief in oneself, one’s vision, having supportive people to hold you to the task and believing in you, recognizing when you are off-course and positively course correcting will greatly minimize stress, affect others to be positive and reflect back positivity.

There are, of course, other pillars to support a long and healthy life, but these are what we consider the most fundamental. More in-depth information can be found at "Secrets of Longevity"

Tai Chi and Other Natural Mood Enhancers

Posted: August 20th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Chinese Stress Balls | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

TI CHI BALL    WOMAN TAI CHI

Tai Chi Ball and Other Natural Mood Elevators,

and Natural Mood Enhancers

Tai Chi Ball, Tai Chi without ball, and other exercises are natural mood ehnancers. The exact science is in the physical exercise itself, and takes place at a cellular level in the pituitary gland, the hypothalamus, and in the spinal vertebrates during periods of exercise. The release of these endorphins stimulates a feeling of welling being, (natural mood elevators) and are also natural pain relievers.

Tai chi ball is especially good at releasing endorphins. The use of controlled breathing, stretching, the use of a weighted ball, the expanse of the spine are all excellent for producing endorphins that strengthen the body, mind, and elevate your mood. Give it a try, and check out some other natural mood boosters, that can naturally increase endorphins.

Natural Mood Boosters

Mood can be defined as a state of mind or a feeling. We will all experience low moods, or be down in the dumps from time to time and this is a normal part of the human condition. Our moods are not static; they can be affected by many factors including diet, environmental and biological influences and even our lifestyle. So is there anything we can do to boost our mood and lift our spirits naturally?

Oily fish and fish oil

Arguably the most effective mood boosting foods are oily fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, trout and anchovies or purified fish oil supplements made from these fish. Countless studies have now demonstrated the mood enhancing effect of fish oil. So what is it about oily fish that is so special?

Oily fish contains omega 3 fatty acids, including EPA or Eicosapentaenoic acid, which is essential for optimum brain function on a day to day basis and as our bodies cannot produce EPA, we have to source it from the diet. If the brain doesn’t get EPA, it will use inferior fatty acids that are not cut out for the job and the result can be depression and physical illness.

These days it isn’t advisable to eat too much fish due to the amount of toxins they contain but purified fish oil supplements are an excellent way to get your daily dose of EPA and improve your mood.

St John’s Wort

St John’s Wort is a herb that has been described by some as nature’s answer to Prozac. It is an old folk remedy used to treat anxiety, sleep problems and sadness. Many research studies have highlighted the mood enhancing effect of St John’s Wort supplements and it is now considered by many to be an effective remedy for mild depression. However, it shouldn’t be taken without first seeking advice from your doctor as St John’s Wort can interact with other medicines, both prescription and over the counter, and there are other contraindications to be considered too.

Exercise

One of the most effective and natural ways to boost mood is to increase the amount of physical activity you do as it releases ‘feel good’ chemicals in the brain and reduces stress. If going to the gym or taking up a sport is not for you, studies have shown that taking a short daily walk in the countryside can increase feelings of well being and lift the spirits.

B Vitamins

Increasing consumption of foods high in B vitamins or taking Vitamin B supplements can help ward off depression and improve your health in general. The body needs a steady supply of B vitamins for mental and physical health as they cannot be stored in the body and are also destroyed by alcohol, tea, coffee and nicotine. The B vitamins can be found in dark leafy green vegetables, beans and peas as well as grains like oats and wheat.

Sunlight

There is no doubt that an adequate dose of sunlight is essential for good mental health as sunlight increases serotonin levels. Indeed in the Northern Hemisphere, where the winter days are short and there is very little sunlight, many people suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. Symptoms include sadness, fatigue and sleep disturbances. Trying to get around 30 minutes outside in the sun each morning can make all the difference to your mood.

Caffeine

Caffeine is a drug that is used all over the world to give us a boost and wake us up, most commonly in the form of coffee or tea, but it is also in many medicines and soft drinks. It is classed as a stimulant so can help us to get going, to feel more alert and generally give us a lift. However, the down side is that too much caffeine is not good for health and can cause shaking, rapid heartbeat and increased feelings of nervousness and anxiety. Just like many other drugs, there are also nasty withdrawal symptoms when coming off caffeine so it should be taken in moderation.

Chocolate

Chocolate contains chemicals that help to improve mood including tryptophan, phenylethylamine and anandamide although the amounts of these chemicals in chocolate are believed to be too small to make any difference. The most likely explanation put forward by researchers for the boost given to us by chocolate is that the chemicals in chocolate help to sustain the levels of mood enhancers chemicals in the brain for longer periods of time. However, the down side to eating chocolate is that overindulgence can lead to weight gain and therefore an increased risk of heart disease and other health problems. Again, should be taken in moderation.

A final word on depression

It is always worth remembering that getting enough sleep, eating the right foods, reducing the amount of stress in your life and taking time to relax each day can go a long way to improving mental as well as physical wellbeing. However, if you cannot shift your low moods and you find it difficult to carry out your normal daily routines, then the chances are you need some professional help from your doctor in order to get well again. Don’t try to battle depression on your own, with the right help, it is treatable and the sooner it is dealt with the quicker you’ll be back to your old self.

How To Treat Mosquito Bites While Camping

Posted: July 11th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Chinese Stress Balls | Tags: , , | No Comments »

When we decided to camp out, and let the kids go to disney, I did not realize how many bugs are in Florida, but with all the flooding the mosquito population has been enormous I heard from the camp site manager.

So, we ran around Orlando, and then headed to the Tai Chi healing seminar that was going into the evening. Some great topics were covered along with Tai Chi ball, and Tai Chi Ruler. Not as much interest as the Tai Chi movement that everyone seemed more interested In. Cornered the instructor later before I left and we walk around the pool at the camping resort, and discussed tai chi ball training techniques that were helpful

By the time I got back the cabin my arms, legs, and face had numerous itchy and welted mosquito bites, and being at the hotel and late I made due. Here are a few ideas for the pesky insects if you should be out doors practicing your tai chi ball, or camping

 How To Treat Mosquito Bite

They are an annoying fact of life, mosquitoes.  You’re enjoying one of your warm caribbean holidays getting lots of sun and suddenly (often overnight) you find yourself covered in loads of itchy bites. More often that not it is us that is encroaching on their ground so its to be expected really that they take advantage. However, that’s not to say we have to live in discomfort. Simply use this little tricks and you won’t even know you have the bites any more.

1.) Use warm soapy water to clean the bite and around the surrounding area. In order to reduce the amount of swelling that will take place and decrease the chances of picking up an infection the bite, clean it as soon as you possible can. You should continue to keep all bites clean until they have gone down, especcially if your somewhere that maybe has lower standards of cleanliness like some parts of Thailand.

2.)    Put some ice on a thin towel, wrap it up and place directly onto the bite. This will cool the surrounding area and reduce blood flow to the bite site. The result being less discomfort and greatly reduced levels of swelling

3.) For a natural bite remedy, try salt and baking soda. Mix the baking soda with water until it forms a paste, and then add a spoonful of salt. The baking soda will bring down swelling  and the salt will decrease itching. Something that is also natural and works in pretty much the same way is aloe vera

4.)    You can always use specific medications on the bite as well. A tropical anaesthetic that contains pramxomin or calamine lotion will help with irritation and pain. You should really try any medication on one bite first to see if it has any adverse effects. If not then you can continue to use on any other bites.

5.)    Lastly you can take oral medication to help as well.An anti-histamine will work to reduce the bodies negative response to the bite and will generally make you feel bett. Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen do pretty much the same job but better reduce swelling.

Tai Chi ball is a Chinese form of exercise, and was once used to prepare a warrior for battle.  It is linked to traditional Tai chi, and it has been proven to help reduce pain and physical impairment in people who have knee arthritis, and other arthritis related conditions.

Tai chi ball and traditional tai chi involves slowly performing a chain of postures or movements that are low impact and put little or no stress on the muscles and joints. Tai chi ball follows the same principle, but uses an actual weighted ball to perform movements, while using proper breathing techniques. It can improve muscle function, balance, strength and adaptability. Tai chi is simple to perform, but hard to perfect.

In a study, of tai chi practitioners in their 60s with serious knee osteoarthritis performed tai chi ball or traditional tai chi for an hour 2 times a week for twelve weeks, while a similar group did an identical quantity of typical stretching exercises over the same period. The People who did tai chi experienced better pain reduction, less depression and enhancements in physical function and overall health. The study is an important book mark on arthritis study as the participants who took part in the study had knee osteoarthritis for approximately ten years. What this means is that chronic arthritis or advanced arthritis with cartilage that has been worn down, can find relief, and repair some damage.

This study was controlled by Dr. Chenchen Wang of Tufts Medical Center in Boston reported at a meeting of the Yank School of Rheumatology in San Francisco, who stated "Tai chi mind-body exercise seems to supply a vital approach for self-care and self-management for knee (osteoarthritis)," The study provided the most recent proof that tai chi in all its many forms (tai chi ball, tai chi ruler) may offer advantages for many individuals with arthritis. Developing Psychic Powers Using Tai Chi

Development Of Tai Chi Psychic Powers

Do you ever have the feeling that you know on an unconscious level that something will happen and then is come true, or you are listening to the radio and the song you have in your head starts to play. A letter come from a high school friend you knew 20 years ago, but you were just thinking about, and then the letter appears in your mail box. Is it mere coincidence, or do you have a higher plane of consciousness?

Develop psychic powers Tai Chi

by Conrad Raw

If you’ve ever watched a program involving someone that’s psychic and wished you had that same ability, then be assured, you do. The ability to perform miracles and harness the psychic power is within every living person. Consider the early cave men. They didn’t have a language so they depended on the part of their brain that controls telepathy to contact the other tribesmen or tell them there’s someone or something watching them. You’ve probably been in a room and knew that someone was watching without ever seeing them. That’s psychic ability.

Psychic ability surpasses simple telepathy once you harness it. Through the ages, various orders of men and women studied the harnessing of this energy. One highly successful group of people are those that are advanced practitioners of Tai Chi. Tai Chi is training your body to improve the flow of energy. It’s a discipline that helps you focus and focus is important in any psychic training.

Advanced practitioners of Tai Chi are able to travel to the future, and forecast events, light fires with the energy from their hands, bend metal and perform a number of other amazing feats. Not everyone trains to do these feats. Since much of the training is quieting the mind, penetrating the mind and energy of his opponent and becoming sensitive to his energy, its isn’t unusual for Tai Chi practitioners to experience psychic events and enter the mind of the opponent. The training also travels with them beyond the sparring arena into daily life.

What causes some of the amazing abilities to occur and increase as the student of Tai Chi increases his abilities? There are different thoughts about the cause of increased psychic power and all of them may be right.

Some believe it comes from the meditative phase of Tai Chi. They believe that when you calm your mind you allow yourself to access information you’ve always had and abilities you’ve hidden that await your discovery. This brings us back to the cave man and his ability. He didn’t have all the useless facts stored in his head like modern man. There was no trivia, geometry, telephone ringing or television to block his ability. Quieting the mind brings us back to the primitive knowledge we once had.

Tai Chi is sometimes called moving meditation and the movement part trains the flow of energy flow with movement and breathing technique. Some believe it is the control of the life force, the chi, through the body that allows the Tai Chi practitioner to perform improbable feats. Amazing feats of strength can come from the practice of Tai Chi. The most interesting part of the development is the loss of self pride in order to increase the flow of Chi. Many times, people with low self esteem but great determination advance more rapidly than those filled with self pride.

When you use Tai Chi to learn psychic phenomena, pride stands in your way. Accepting that all is natural increases the amazing psychic ability. Self pride interferes with the abilities. Perhaps, the ancients understood that psychic ability is inside all of us. We need to accept it as we accept talking, walking and moving. If you stopped in the middle of every sentence and said, "Look at me, I’m talking" you’d never have any communication. Psychic ability, like every ability you have is part of your basic make-up. You have to accept that first and "just do it".

The Many Forms of Martial Arts

Posted: March 20th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Chinese Stress Balls | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

The Many Forms OF Tai Chi Chuan

As exercise, T ‘ai Chi ch’uan is meant to provide relaxation in the method of body-conditioning exercise and is drawn from the rules of T’ai Chi, particularly including the harmonizing of the yin and yang, respectively the passive and active guidelines.

As a mode of attack and defense, T ‘ai Chi ch’uan resembles kung fu and is correctly considered a martial art. Freehand exercise to push health was practiced in China as early as the third century, and, by the 5th century, friars at the Buddhist priory of Shao Lin were performing exercises emulating the 5 creatures : bear, bird, deer, monkey, and tiger. there were a lot of faculties of T’ai Chi ch’uan, and 2, the Wu and the Yang, survive. Depending on faculty and master, the amount of prescribed exercise forms varies from twenty-four to 108 or more. The forms are named for the image made by their execution,eg "White stork displays its wings" and "Fall back and twist like monkey." All start from one of 3 stances, weight forward, weight on rear foot, and horse riding, or oblique. What ever form of martial arts you choose you are sure to see health benefits, and increased energy.

Tips For Choosing A Martial Arts Style

Author: Terry Parker

Before you begin to shop for the right martial arts equipment, and before you take that first step inside of the dojo, it is important to choose a martial arts style. All martial arts styles are not created equally and the best style for one person may be the worst for someone else.

There are several main style categories to consider, ground fighting or grappling, stand up, weapons based styles, throwing styles, and low impact styles. Stand up fighting styles, including Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Boxing, Kickboxing, and related styles. These types of martial arts are the most popular, and require specific martial arts equipment, depending on the specialization. If you are just beginning your martial

Ground fighting or grappling styles focus on wrestling related combat, and include Greco Roman wrestling, Sambo, Brazilian Jujitsu, and others. Of these, Brazilian Jujitsu is the most prolific in martial arts circles, and was developed into the form known today by the Gracie family, who were also responsible for developing the vale tudo combat matches that were the precursor to today’s MMA competitions.

Throwing martial arts styles are characterized by standing positions that make use of locks, trips and other techniques with the goal of throwing an opponent off balance. Styles in this category include, but are not limited to, Akidio, Judo, Shuai Jiao, and Hapkido. Martial arts equipment required for these styles consists of specially designed gis or uniforms, which are typically heavier than those used for karate and other ground fighting styles, and floor mats.

Low impact martial arts styles include Tai Chi, Ba Gua, and Chi Gong. While these styles were originally developed for combat, today, they are primarily focused on well being, stress relief, and low impact exercise. Tai Chi in particular emphasizes consistent movement, breathing, relaxing, and fitness techniques.

Weapons based martial arts focus on the use of one or more weapons and include, Kali, Iado, and Kendo. Kendo, translated literally as the way of the sword has been practiced since 1185 AD. Martial arts equipment for kendo includes protective armor known as bogu, a shinai, or practice sword, and a bokken, or wooden sword, for serious combat.

Regardless of the martial arts style you choose, be sure to practice safely, using proper martial arts equipment and the techniques learned during your lessons. Remember that martial arts is a mental as well as a physical discipline, and that it should only be used in self defense when it is absolutely necessary. With a little patience and a lot of practice, you will be on your way to becoming a martial arts master.

Tai Chi Chuan is a traditional Chinese "internal" or soft martial art regularly practiced for its health-giving and religious qualities.

Each morning, an approximate 30,000,000 folks all over the world begin their day with the routines ( known as forms ) that are at the center of tai chi.

In contrast to the Western idea of "no discomfort, no gain" an hour of tai chi essentially burns more calories than surfing and virtually up to downhill skiing.[1] The art is further said to enhance the flow of Chi ( Qi ), the normal Chinese idea of a physically unsubstantial energy or life force. Though its low-impact workout is particularly useful to seniors, tai chi is for everybody and is deceptively easy in appearance.

In Tai Chi Chuan practice, hands are held as "Yin-Yang Hands." The palm represents Yin, the back of a hands represents Yang. "Yin-Yang Hands" is referring to a 2 hands’ relation that is one hand is Yin ( the palm ), the other hand must be Yang ( the back ). By our nature, the movements of Yin-Yang Hands describe a "ball" where the palms are moved along the skin of it. Usually , we control the Tai Chi ball by moving the shoulders, that may give us a Tai Chi ball about the dimensions of our chests. As 5 Directions expand the tai Chi ball by moving the heels to where 8 Jings are most productive, with 8 Jings and 5 Directions pushing the body to the maximum performance, the movement of Yin-Yang Hands describes the slippery "Tai Chi Ball.

Things To Know About Learning Tai Chi Chuan

(Tai Chi Boxing)

By C. Guan Soo

For Easterners, particularly Chinese, this MAY not be an issue. Tai Chi Chuan is deeply rooted as part of the Chinese culture. It is known to almost everyone what Tai Chi Chuan is all about. Note there: I said “…MAY not be an issue”, meaning that there are exceptions, particularly to Chinese who are not born and grown up in China.

For Westerners, surprisingly – I found many sites dedicated to Tai Chi Chuan, and some of this information is from Westerners. However, deep in my instinct, there are still many who want to know more about learning Tai Chi Chuan.

Moreover, many literatures and scriptures about Tai Chi Chuan are still mainly written in Chinese, and much translation is needed to make it more accessible to the West. I’m doing such translation work.

Yes, I’m a Chinese, trained in both Chinese and English languages since young. And, I would really love to share my passion in Tai Chi Chuan with whoever interested about the subject.

In my 23 years of learning and research in Tai Chi Chuan, martial arts, meditation and healing, I found some questions are very much of interest for a keen learner, or even beginner.

Examples of these are, “Can a senior person learn Tai Chi Chuan?”, “Is it easy to learn and master?”, “What do I need?”, “Should I know about Daoism to learn Tai Chi Chuan?” and so on.

For a start, everyone and anyone can learn this art though it is once a closely kept secret among the family or clan, or later among Chinese. Age has no barrier. In fact, senior people found it very beneficial to their physical health and mental well-being, by practicing regularly.

The original forms of Tai Chi Chuan, irregardless of which styles, require a lot of effort, time, and dedication to learn and master. Simplifying is a necessity. In fact, I started learning the simplified version of Yang style 24 forms. This requires a lot of effort and time from my side to achieve reasonable level of mastery.

Tai Chi Chuan is the outward projection of certain principles found in the Chinese culture. Though the understanding of its principles is desirable, it is not necessary…yet, for a beginner. Principles I referred to here is not the fundamental principles of Tai Chi Chuan itself. It is more of philosophical principles – close to I-Ching, and some of Daoism.

The fundamental principle of Tai Chi Chuan is a must for a beginner, so that he or she will know the correct way to execute the movements.

Other things enquirer of Tai Chi Chuan would like to know is – “What’s in for me?

Particularly skeptics who see this as slow-moving, apparently energy-less, and senior-people related martial arts.

Can this help me???

If I say – “Yes, it can help!”. You may also doubt my words. I don’t mind that. But, how about keeping an open mind and you try it out for yourself. You will see the effects over time. And if you don’t, then, you are not doing it correctly!

Sorry, no catch here! :)

Tai Chi Chuan may ‘appear’ to be slow – but this is only for practicing. It actual combat application – you should be able to move extremely fast in order for it to be of use.

The apparent energy-less motion is in fact energy in disguise. The energy gathered and harnessed in Tai Chi is not brute force – but vital energy, Qi that is even more potent than physical strength and energy.

Senior-related?

Incidentally – yes, it seems more senior people practice Tai Chi Chuan than younger people, for health reasons. But international champion male and female Tai Chi exponents in China were been trained since childhood. And there are a lot of young adults learning and practicing this art. Hmm… should I still say senior-related???

It does bring a lot of benefits to anyone who practices it religiously, and in particular – correctly. And the best thing is – the benefits can be limitless, and may cover every aspects of your life! Try it for yourself!

tai chi balls, qigong balls

Tai Chi  & Qigong Benefits Include Emotional Health

We practice alternative forms of health weather we realize it or not everyday. Western and Eastern medicine blend, and merge as the world has become smaller through technology, transportation, and communication.

There are however some ancient riturals, and complementary, or what westerners call alterative health  practices that have not changed. Tai Chi & Qigong are two that we will talk about today.

Learning to use your Tai Chi ball or Qigong balls can add new and dramatic health benefits, both mentally and physically.

Emotional Health Through Qigong and Tai Chi

by Dan Adrian

Our emotional health is essential if we are to live an enjoyable and successful life and interact with others in a fulfilling way. Lack of emotional control often keeps us from initiating meaningful contact with other people and expressing ourselves in social situations.

There are many approaches and techniques for improving self confidence. The ones mostly relied upon range from psychological techniques, such as those used by psychotherapists to help their clients overcome emotional problems, to physical stress-relief maneuvers, such as getting a massage or working out regularly. However, there is another way that pertains to a totally different understanding of the emotions.

Thousands of years ago, in ancient China, a system of techniques called Qigong has emerged, which relied upon the philosophical principles of Yin and Yang, the 5 elements and the complex relations between human existence and nature, relations that underline and influence every aspect of our health and well-being. Tai Chi, with its slow graceful movements, is actually just Qigong in motion. What few people know, however, is that the improving emotional health is one of the areas Qigong and Tai Chi excel compared to other practices.

What Is Qigong?

Qigong is a system of techniques designed to promote health and enable the cultivation of Chi, the essential life force sustaining our bodies and informing and animating all known phenomena. Qigong techniques include breathing exercises, slow movements, static standing postures, meditation and visualizations. Through these techniques, people of all ages are able to correct their posture and improve their mobility, regain their strength and vigor and overcome most diseases.

But one of the strongest points of Qigong practice is it’s ability to help us achieve emotional balance in a very effective and unique way. Tai Chi then enables us to take command of our body and encourage the energy accumulated through Qigong to circulate along the natural pathways.

How Does Qigong Relate to Emotional Health?

Chinese medicine has established a complex system of relations between emotions and our vital organs. English expressions like "being livid with anger", "having a broken heart" or "a heart filled with joy" make perfect sense in this context, because the liver is associated with anger and the heart is associated with emotional suffering, and when energetically balanced, with joy and love. Refined over thousands of years, this knowledge is of course far more complex than, but you do not need to understand all the complexity in order to practice those simple techniques.

In Qigong, each emotional imbalance is seen as a sign of an energetic imbalance. This is not necessarily good or bad but it’s a state of weakness, just as any disease. Harboring negative emotions for too long actually lead to physiological diseases in most cases.

Learning how to use abdominal, deep breathing is one of the most valuable tools at your disposal for calming your mind and remaining in control. Straightening your spinal column and unblocking its essential energy centers is another way to insure increased emotional stability and a clear mind as well. Then there are the meditation techniques which allow us to clear our mind, and the static postures designed to release tension and encourage the flow of Chi along the meridians the way it’s naturally supposed to flow.

What Is Qigong’s Approach So Powerful?

Think of psychological techniques of improving emotional health as "learning how to drive better". No matter how poorly maintained you car is, if you are a good driver, you are able to make the best out of it and avoid getting into accidents too. Think of taking care of your body, getting massages, running and getting enough sleep as "performing basic maintenance for your car".

But think about Qigong and Tai Chi as putting quality gasoline in your fuel tank and making sure the transmission and the steering remain intact. Because no matter how good a driver you are, there is nothing you can do if the transmission jams.

Qigong and Tai Chi are a slow but easy and steady progress towards attaining great emotional health and balance so that even in difficult or challenging circumstances, you maintain your inner composure and your ability to enjoy yourself.

Using The  Tai Chi Ball

As we unlock our stagnate energy in the body, and are Qi is balanced, and  restored our bodies naturally start to let go of the negative energy that can take the forms aches and pains, rigidity, inflammations, and we gain strength, calm, and more positive chi energy.

Why do our physical body falls apart unable to cope with the bad energy that literally drain the "life force" from us creating illness. It happens when we do not care for the entire self the physical body. In the western world, we’ve lost touch with the basic idea of true healing, and it seems that most of us are happy to substitute an aspirin for a brief respite from our aches, and pains, but is modern medicine always the right answer?

Why does it seem the band aid fix that many westerns accept as normal, does not make many feel any better. Each diseased state is enlightening us that we are ignoring some part of ourselves and change is needed for our natural healthy Qi to be restored. While several factors contribute to healing, and it occurs on a lot of levels, it is clear that as advocates of our own health we all need to pay close attention across the whole healing dynamic, and tai chi is can help many who find the band aid of western medicine is not enough to keep them healthy, strong, and vital.

Learning to use the Tai Chi ball is very healthy, and builds strength, coordination, flexibility, increases circulation, and decreases inflammation.

Top 5 Conditions To Get Healed With Tai Chi

Author: Raymond Lee

Visitors to China are often amazed when they look out their hotel room windows early in the morning. In parks, squares, plazas, and schoolyards, ten of thousands of Chinese of all ages – but particularly the elderly – begin their days with slow, graceful, beautiful choreographed routines called tai chi chuan, generally known in the United States as tai chi. Practitioners of tai chi say that this centuries-old dancelike exercise, which is derived from the martial arts, clears the mind, relaxes the body, nourishes the spirit, increases energy and contributes to health and longevity. Over the last 20 years, tai chi has become increasingly popular in the United States – both as a gentle form of meditative exercise and as a way to cope with various illnesses. One such illness is multiple sclerosis (MS), the baffling neurological disease that saps the strength and limits the mobility of an estimated 350,000 Americans, most of them women. Tai chi has not been the subject of as much scientific research as yoga, but the few studies that have been published to date point to significant health benefits, particularly for the elderly.

1. Stress

The Chinese researchers who equated tai chi to a moderate-paced walk also measured its ability to reduce stress. They subjected 48 men and women to mentally challenging tests and then showed them a film calculated to upset them. Then the participants were divided into four groups. Each group attempted to destress using one of four activities: tai chi, meditation, a brisk walk or reading. By measuring their heart rates, blood pressure and urinary excretion of stress hormones, the researchers were able to track how quickly the participants recovered from the stress. Tai chi turned out to be as stress-relieving as two better-known stress reducers, meditation and walking. Tai chi would be a good choice for someone who enjoys physically active approaches to stress management but may not be able to take a walk.

2. Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most severe form of arthritis. Some two million Americans have this painful, potentially crippling inflammatory joint disease. For other forms of arthritis, it is recommended gentle exercise to help control pain and preserve joint function. But many physicians are reluctant to recommend exercise for people with RA because overexertion can trigger joint inflammation. Tai chi does not. In a study, 20 people with RA practiced tai chi two hours a week for ten weeks without any aggravation of symptoms. The researchers concluded that tai chi appears to be safe for RA patients. They also confirmed that tai chi might serve as a safe alternative to other forms of exercise therapy.

3. Balance

In a study, nine pairs of similar women aged 65 to 85 were recruited. One of each pair practiced tai chi, the other did not. Using sophisticated tests, the researchers assessed the women’s postural control, their steadiness on their feet and their ability to remain standing when subjected to destabilizing situations, such as a rocking floor. The tai chi practitioners had significantly better postural control, meaning that they were less likely to fall. This finding has considerable medical importance for those over 65. falling is a common – and serious – problem in the elderly, especially for women with bone-thinning osteoporosis. Osteoporosis makes the bones brittle, and when elderly women fall, they risk hip fractures, complications from which are the nation’s twelfth leading cause of death and a major killer of elderly women. Weight-bearing exercise, such as walking, helps control osteoporosis, but as women grow older, fear of falling keeps many from getting the weight-bearing exercise they need. All this leads to a vicious cycle: fear of falling, increasingly sedentary lifestyle and increased risk of hip fractures if they do fall. Tai chi can help the elderly stay on their feet, avoid falling and remain physically active, which promotes overall health and well-being.

4. Exercise

A classic, hour-long tai chi routine could raise heart rate and oxygen consumption into the aerobic range, thereby offering the benefits of strenuous exercise, including cardiovascular conditioning. Tai chi’s modest intensity produces the kind of moderate workout that exercise physiologists often recommend for the elderly and for anyone interested in reducing their risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and other serious medical conditions.

5. Emotional Well-Being

It was found that tai chi elevates mood, reduces anger, relieves fatigue and increases energy as well as other forms of moderate exercise.

The Art OF Tai Chi Sparring

 Tai Chi Sparring Techniques

tai chi sparring

Tai Chi Sparring

Tai Chi sparring is in reality one of the most significant stages of this traditional martial art. As spotted in most resources, Tai Chi sparring is strongly considered as the most effective way to teach scholars of the art the significance of self defense, distance and speed. Several folks, particularly in the West, will be quite shocked that Tai Chi Chuan can be effectively used for fighting. Essentially the term "Tai Chi Chuan" means "cosmos martial art".

If you don’t know the martial dimension of Tai Chi Chuan, you would have missed the essence of this glorious art, and would most likely have practiced it as a dance.

A Tai Chi Chuan ( taijiguan ) or Taiji, is often interpreted as Ultimate Final Fist and is understood across the world as a Chinese martial art that mixes the rules of self defense with the psychological and physical fitness. This art is practiced by millions of men and woman today for many purposes, including self defense and for its health benefits. Sparring is concerned in basic Tai Chi practice. Tai Chi sparring is in truth one of the most vital stages of this traditional martial art. As noted in most resources, Tai Chi sparring is strongly considered as the simplest way to coach students of the art the significance of self defense, distance and speed.

Tai chi balls find more information

According to its proponents, the slow and continuous movements are often engineered to impart the strong physical talents of the sparer, and to excite the flow of energy in the body. This slow, meditative pace concerned in Tai Chi sparring also helps to develop balance, coordination of breath and movement, concentration and relaxation. Simply, Tai Chi sparring teaches you the way to move simply without tension in order that your mind and body can function smoothly. I believe this a great health benefit.

There are 3 major levels of coaching concerned in Tai Chi sparring. The 1st has something to do with postures, the second with self defense applications, and the 3rd with coordination of breath with movement. In the opinion of some Tai Chi sparring pros, it is thru the mastery of the right postures the student can develop a comprehension of the character of flexible strength. This level requires long and diligent practice to defeat.

A higher level of Tai Chi sparring involves understanding of the energetic and self defense applications. This concept maybe flowered from the proven fact that when practicing Tai Chi sparring, you are relaxing and energizing your body.

How does Tai Chi do this?

First, Tai Chi sparring gets rid of the impurities due to tension, and then it wakes energy to flow thru the body. It is this flow of energy that really cleans the whole body.
Self defense applications, Tai Chi sparring simply teaches you to appreciate each move concerned in the practice.

The rule here is that each move can be done at 3 levels, which is high, middle and low. Except for these levels, the movements may also be performed in 5 directions, concerning left, right, back, forward and center. For plenty of Tai Chi practitioners, it is really imperative that every sparer understand these applications in order to keep movements accurate.

Finally, Tai Chi sparring involves coordination of the breath and the movements.
What’s sometimes considered in coaching is that you breathe with movements that lift or roll back, and in turn exhale with movements that press or sink. However, it is crucial to notice that in Tai Chi not every move will need a full breath.

Even if you’re most important intention of practicing Tai Chi Chuan is for health reasons, you will miss out on the best health advantages of Tai Chi Chuan if you don’t practice it as a martial art. If you train yourself to become an aspiring fighter whereby these health features are necessary, and you can never be bored with the challenging routines of Tai Chi sparring as no two sessions are exactly alike.

Tai Chi

The Health Benefits Of Tai Chi

Tai Chi is considered a complementary or alternative medicine, in our western society. However, it has been practiced for centuries in Eastern Countries, and considered quite medically sound. The benefits of Tai  Chi to the body, mind, and soul have not waned over time, if anything more people are beginning to see how practicing Tai Chi can bring great change to ones well being.

The beauty of Tai Chi is the graceful movements that flow one into the other, the body dynamics even and uniform.  As we go through the movements our body’s renew our positive energy, relieve stress, restoring qi , while at the same time we are letting go of the distractions of life, and bring back the natural balance. Balance is the key to Tai Chi’s success, and for those who practice with frequency it only improves as our qi becomes unblocked, and redirected.

Tai Chi Exercises for Mind, Body, and Spirit

by Ray Lam.

The practice of Tai Chi combines flowing movement and breathing techniques with mental and spiritual awareness to bring about a workout that benefits the mind, body, and soul. If you are experiencing a lot of stress in your life, then you may benefit from joining a Tai Chi class in your local area, or even getting a book or video from the library and learning the movements on your own at home.

Tai Chi has two basic methods of practicing, "pushing hands," which involves a pair of people, and going solo, known as "forms." Tai Chi exercises aim to train the body to balance and adjust according to the external forces. Tai Chi exercises are taught at a nearby fitness centers and do not require any special clothing. It is recommended to wear loose fitting clothes that enable flexibility and free movement of the body parts. Exclusively made special shoes can be bought, or a comfortable walking shoe or a sneaker will serve the purpose.

Studies have shown that Tai Chi can lower high blood pressure, and profoundly boost aspects of the immune system, while improving balance and coordination far better than any other known exercise. Tai Chi can reduce or eliminate chronic pain or limited mobility, while lessening the incidence of anxiety, depression, or overall mood disturbance. Tai Chi is the lowest impact exercise there is, and has even been used by those with arthritis, yet as gentle as it is it burns about 280 calories per hour, and provides roughly the same cardiovascular benefits of moderate impact aerobics.

Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? But, it is true, and this is only scratching the surface of what Tai Chi offers our busy lives. Not only can Tai Chi do all these amazing things, but it is so multi-dimensional that it provides these healing results to all the systems of our mind, body, and spirit in a regimen that only takes less than 30 minutes a day, and can be done in office attire at work in an empty boardroom or stock room. Anywhere where you can have some time alone with a little space to be uninterrupted, making Tai Chi the exercise of the future.

Tai Chi’s gentle movements, breathing techniques, and visualization techniques combine to massage the accumulated stress loads out of our 50 trillion cells in our body. The result is to cultivate a newness of being each time we "play" Tai Chi. The Chinese don’t speak of "work-outs," but rather "play" Tai Chi. If you can play yourself into a whole new life, a healthy, and happy, and hopeful one . . . why wait?

Chinese Stress Relieving Ball

 Chinese Medicine Ball Therapy

The Chinese have developed an experience of the body’s energy based primarily on meridians or pathways along which energy travels, linking all the organs together in a dynamic network.

This network is constantly changing and fixing the human organism to maintain the highest likely level of health. In energy drugs, the more you’re employed with the body’s energy thru concentration and respiring, the more balanced and harmonious the body becomes. By working at once with energies, dramatic enhancements in health can be got. Energy drugs have a long record as a healing art, especially in the East.

It was developed over centuries of practice and is steadily developing.

Chinese medicine operates on the beliefs that there are energy channels running all thru out the body, connecting everything to the critical organs and brain. The bio-energy fields are in all living organisms, and the plants that surround us.

Our hands are full of potential energy, and our and are incredibly full of pressure points a channels. Now, for people to whom Western drugs are the all, end all, and only route for a person to take for healing, let me just say this. These Chinese MedicaL balls are counseled by several doctors worldwide, as are stress balls. The healing energy and meditative results calm the body, mind, and soul.

The healing properties from using Chinese medicine balls are brilliant treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Arthritis, Writer’s Cramp, and muscular aches in the forearm. The balls work the muscles, joints and tendons, each one of them, cooperatively, at once – the required strengthening in several cases.
