It is not uncommon for people thinking about joining different health and fitness clubs to be a little confused by the choices available. Each person has their own set of needs when they join and clubs differ so it is important to assess your needs first.
Whilst that is important, there are some other factors to consider before you make your final decision. The most important factor is where your fitness center is located as the biggest reason for people giving up is because they have to go out of their way to get to it; so a location close to where you live or work is preferable.
Having a decent well qualified instructor is the next most important as a good instructor will encourage you to not only attend but to keep the fitness training up. Always inform your physical trainer if you require any special attention or have any limitations they need to know about in advance.
If you speak to the staff about their facilities and training programs, this will give you a good idea about the customer service level they provide. If you have an interest in learning martial arts for example, see if the fitness club arranges lessons as many clubs have resident professional in a number of fields.
Try to find a club with flexible opening hours preferable a 24 hour fitness center because it is no good if you can only attend in the evening when they are closed. So if the prospective fitness club does have classes you enjoy, why not ask for a taster session to see if it is what you want.
Check if there is enough equipment for all the members otherwise, you will waste time waiting for your turn instead of working out. One thing to look for is the age of the equipment; the older it is the more likely it is to break down which doesn’t look good on the club.
It is not unusual for clubs to have social venues and it is worth trying one of these to meet some of the members to see if they are the sort of people you will get on well with. The cost of membership is obviously a deciding factor so ensure you know all the charges, including those for classes and how often they increase the membership fee.
Fitness clubs vary which means you will need to visit a few to find one that you not only feel comfortable which also has all the facilities you require. Take your time, there is no hurry and be wary of clubs that continue to contact you about membership as there is a fine line between a courteous approach and pestering.

- Your eyes will start to lose focus, and the colors on the balls will start to fade in and out as a soft haze slowly appears. You will not be conscious of the haze, as you are heading to the higher plane of chi.

You will find yourself gradually awakening out of the self hypnotic state when the balls stop their musical chiming.
Your body will be relaxed, you will have increased concentration and your energy will be renewed.

The Ruler is a type of qigong used to nourish and fortify the qi. The Bang ( Stick ) is heavy while the Ruler is light.

Both ends of the Ruler are round in shape and fit nicely in the centre of the palms.
The Ruler coaching is flexible, in the way that you can practise the movements individually or do them as a set. This practice gives you a good grounding which lets you reach higher levels in qigong. It’s a synthesis of all the ingredients which are required for development at higher levels. And, naturally, with the smooth circulation of blood and qi, good health is in the palms of your hands.
The art contains 8 sets of exercises done in repetition with deep, slow respiring and the ruler held between the palms. Each exercise coordinates breath, psychological and visible concentration with a basic t’ai chi physical pattern.

Hold the ruler so that it is in a vertical position whilst your arms are like welcoming a balloon.
Push the ruler in so that it is near your chest and out again. At the same time your wrists must revolve as if you are wringing the ruler. Hold the ruler horizontally out front of your chest with your palms facing your chest. Next, using your waist, turn left but using your right hand to bump your right end of ruler down ( at about that point, the right end of the ruler moves toward your body ) whilst your left hand will attempt to resist the movement. After that, turn back to face the front to the beginning position.
